Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behaviour change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully and changing or persisting in behaviour that is consistent with the client’s chosen values. ACT is a very helpful model in terms of helping people to reevaluate what is important to them, recognise their values and commit to change that will give them fulfilment.
